Examinations
The NDAAI Highland exams are based on the technique laid down by the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (SOBHD) Edinburgh Scotland.

- Preliminary (Assessment only for 4 to 7 yr olds)
- Pre Grade - 6 years old and over
- Grade One - 7 years old and over
- Grade Two

- Teaching Certificate
- Grade One - Flora McDonald's Fancy -Candidate required to successfully pass Grade 3 Highland before entering this examination.
- Grade Two - Scottish Lilt - Candidate required to successfully pass Grade 1 Scottish National Examinations and Grade 3 Highland before entering this examination.
- Grade Three - Wilt thou go to the Barracks Johnnie-Candidate required to successfully pass all previous Scottish National Examinations and Grade 3 Highland before entering this examination
- Grade Four - Highland Laddie - Candidate required to successfully pass all previous Scottish NationalExaminations and Grade 3 Highland before entering this examination
- Grade Five - Village Maid - Candidate required to successfully pass all previous Scottish NationalExaminations and Grade 3 Highland before entering this examination
- Grade Six - Scotch Measure - Candidate required to successfully pass all previous Scottish NationalExaminations and Elementary Highland before entering this examination
- Grade Seven - Blue Bonnets O' the Border - Candidate required to successfully pass all previous Scottish National Examinations and Elementary Highland before entering this examination
- Grade Eight - Earl of Errol - Candidate required to successfully pass all previous Scottish National Examinations and Elementary Highland before entering this examination
- Junior – Candidates who have passed Grade 3 Highland Examination are eligible to enter this examination
- Intermediate - Candidates who have passed Grade 4 Highland and Junior Jig and Hornpipe Examination are eligible to enter this examination
- Advanced - Candidates who have passed Elementary Highland and Junior and Intermediate Jig/Hornpipe Examinations are eligible to enter this examination
All grades have detailed easy-to-follow technical notations and music incorporating beats and bars which is most helpful for those aspiring to become better teachers and or take the SOBHD Judges' Examination.
Teacher lessons with Examiners can be arranged if required to assist with details of examination syllabi.
NDAAI Examiners are available to answer any queries on any aspect of the syllabi. This is particularly helpful if your query is minor and not requiring a full lesson from an Examiner.
