Meet Your NDAAI Member – Dianne Harrison
Dianne commenced Highland Dancing at the age of 4 years with Mrs Ford. She had several teachers including Helen Harrison, Hilda Lowe and Lynne Dickson and from 14 years old, Dorothy Kerr until she retired.
Dianne enjoyed travelling around NSW dancing at the many local shows and Eisteddfods, as well as travelling Interstate to compete at various championships. The most enjoyable part for Dianne were the interesting places visited and the many friendships made along the way.
With Lynne Dickson and a group of dancers, she travelled to Canada and America to perform. Whilst with Dorothy Kerr, she enjoyed much success in winning many Championships throughout Australia and Scotland.
Being part of the, Dorothy Kerr Dance group she loved dancing to entertain at many Balls, Tattoos together with dancing in Jakarta in Indonesia for St Andrew Day celebrations and in Canada for the Commonwealth Games Music Festival. A memorable moment for Dianne was dancing as part of the opening ceremony at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Professionally, Dianne qualified as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and in 1983 spent a year working at the Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Scotland. Whilst there, she spent the year competing at the many games and Championships in Scotland under the tuition of Bobby Watson. She gained her Teachers’ certificates and SOBHD Adjudicators during this time in Scotland. On returning to Sydney, she qualified as a Ultrasonographer, and continues to work on a Part Time basis in a Private Radiology Practice.
Dianne then travelled back to Scotland to again compete during 1984 and 1986.
Dianne married Ian in 1984 and they have three boys who have kept them very busy! Two are now married so she also has two lovely daughters-in-law.
Dianne has long been involved in the NSW State Committee, having held various positions, and is now currently President. In addition, she has enjoyed a stint on the ABHDI.
Dianne has thoroughly enjoyed judging all over Australia, in New Zealand, America and shortly in South Africa!
Notwithstanding the dancing successes and the worldwide travels and experiences she has enjoyed,
Dianne remains adamant the best part of being involved in Highland Dancing remains the long-standing friendships she has made through the fabulous Highland Dancing community.
